WHAT IS THERE TO DO... WITH THE CHILDREN?
No school today! Hooray! But what is there to do with your little angels in La Roche-sur-Yon and the surrounding area? Here we offer you a few ideas for days out and activities with the children.
Many sites and monuments can be visited with children, particularly those that organise children's activities:
The Dragonfly Centre at Rives de l'Yon (Chaillé-sous-les-Ormeaux) has children's tours and events related with nature and biodiversity. Of the cultural sites, children will particularly appreciate the Chocolate Museum (La Roche-sur-Yon) and the Haras de la Vendée stud-farm (La Roche-sur-Yon). La Gaterie Art Gallery also lays on regular activities and events for a younger audience.
If you want something green, the children will love romping in the parks and gardens, several of which - like the Simone Mallet garden at Les Clouzeaux - have games areas; or you can explore the Yon Valley, particularly the beautiful site of Piquet, at Le Tablier. And of course it is inconceivable to visit La Roche-sur-Yon without taking them to play with the animals in Place Napoléon. A sure-fire success! And you could combine it with a horse-drawn carriage ride round the town (in July and August).
Sport, leisure and recreation for young and old...
There are plenty of activities to keep the little ones amused year round!
There are several equestrian centres in and around the town (Armonia, Domaine de la Combe, La Ferme des Longs Crins, Le Ranch du P'tit Canyon, Les Crins Verts, Les Écuries de Monconseil, Poney Club Yonnais, The Lazy VP Ranch), as well as swimming pools (Piscine Arago, Espace Aquaform Armonia, Piscine Sud at Saint-Florent des Bois) and even several cinemas (Le Concorde, Le Carfour, Cinéville, Le Roc).
Bowling alleys, children's play areas, the skating rink and laser games are some other ideas to keep everyone amused, big and small:
Axe Yon Paintball, Bowling du Parc, City Zebres, Funshine, Lasergame Evolution, Royal Kids, Arago Skating Rink, Canoeing, Skate Parks (La Généraudière, Square Bayard)
