INDOOR TOURIST ATTRACTIONS AND MONUMENTS WHICH YOU CAN DISCOVER IN LA ROCHE-SUR-YON
You can also discover the secrets of the Odonata (the order to which dragonflies and damselflies belong) by visiting The Dragonfly Centre at Rives de l'Yon (Chaillé-sous-les-Ormeaux).
Do not miss a visit to the Charles Payraudeau Ornithological Museum at La Chaize-le-Vicomte, the only natural history museum in the Vendée and qualifying for the "Musée de France" label. It was created in 1994 to house the collections of the zoologist Charles Payraudeau.
Several other local monuments and heritage sites are also under cover. In summer you can visit the churches of the local area, the most emblematic being the Church of Saint Louis (19th century neoclassical) at La Roche-sur-Yon and the Church of Saint Nicholas (11th century romanesque) at la Chaize-le-Vicomte.
There are other monuments which you do not need an umbrella to discover. In summer you can visit the Renaissance House in La Roche-sur-Yon (the oldest house in the town, dating from 1566) and discover two permanent exhibitions devoted to the town's history and the Vendée engineer René Couzinet.
If you come in summer, take the opportunity to go to the Theatre on the days when it opens. The front, reminiscent of a classical temple, conceals a magnificent Italianate theatre.
Don't let poor weather stop you from making a trip to Nesmy, where you can visit the Nesmy pottery and the Rambourg watermill. And why not look in on an art exhibition? Whether you go to the Museum or to an art gallery, there are always works of art to see in the area - contemporary photographs, handicrafts, paintings...
Other good alternatives for rainy days are the Chocolate museum at La Roche-sur-Yon.
